Just when I thought that I was out….

Damn you fall schedule! I’m embarrassed and yet mildly excited to reveal a sad a pathetic part of myself. Reality tv. Not just the high brow stuff like Amazing Race, which I can pass off as lesson in geography for the kids and a study of human nature mrrr mrrr mrr….oh NO. Shall we look at the list of reality tv that I can’t stay away from…..The Biggest Loser, Beauty and the Geek, The Bachelor, Project Runway and on a desperate night with nothing else I’ve been known to watch the Two Coreys. How am I going to fit it all in with the returning and new shows that look so good, House, Grey’s Anatomy, ER, all the Law & Orders, CSI, Criminal Minds and the horribly acted yet completely entertaining Cold Case (it’s the music dammit!). Do you think I can NOT watch anything with Jimmy Smits? How about the new Bionic Woman, Journeyman or Big Shots with Dylan McDermott, Michael Vartan, Christopher Titus, Josh Malina and Paul Blackthorn (yum!). I’m thinking we’re just a few years away from some sort of chip that can be implanted into the brain so I can mainline tv shows like crack. Pathetic you say….Scott even mentioned that we’ll have to get a PVR because we’re signed up for oldtimers recreational volleyball and it’s on a *GASP* Thursday night.

The upside is during fall and winter I get a hell of a lot of knitting done.

Oh and I think I should teach a parenting class….

I did it! I found an online Etsy crafter to dye me some wool. I’m getting Saskatchewan Roughrider (football) colours and Edmonton Oiler (hockey) colours. I cannot wait for them to arrive! This woman is amazing AND CANADIAN! In under a week I get this email saying ‘it’s done’. I guess not knowing the process I had thought it would take awhile but not with ashabee05.

Do NOT come back here whining about how much money you spent and how it’s all my fault. I take no responsiblity for your lack of control. That being said I’m thinking I should make Scott some Seattle Seahawks socks for Christmas so I’d better see if she can dye me up some of their colours too….. should I go self striping or variegated, what type of yarn bamboo/merino/nylon OR superwash merino/tencel OR colonial wool/nylon OR maybe a sportsweight superwash merino. I think I may be in trouble…..

Okay, I knew the package would be good.  I knew it would be filled with personality of the giver. I kinda thought with football season starting it might just be filled Denver Bronco coloured yarn……

Wow, is all I can say is wow.  I have no witty smart mouth comments.  I can’t begin to tell you how perfect the box was….

What’s inside you ask?  Well me in a box quite frankly….there’s yarn that matches my new couch PERFECTLY, yarn that is the colours of my livingroom, the cutest blue clutch that I’m going to use as a wallet, a sock pattern with the prettiest look to it, fridge magnets that made me giggle, a yarn cutter pendant that I’m pretty sure is going to get jeers from my teenager but it BRILLIANT, bath bombs that I’m usually too cheap to buy for myself, decorator ziplock bags that I would have bought for myself, a voodoo kit that I can only assume she bought because she’s pyschic and she knows i’m fighting with the bussing company regarding N’s drop off spot, and a brass thingie that I think is for socks but I’m a big enough to admit I don’t have a clue what the hell it is or how to use it.

It’s wonderful. It’s thoughtful. It came from someone who is clearly sweet enough to get to know me. It’s from a friend.

oh me oh my…

Canada Post has a parcel for me. I don’t remember ordering anything, which of course doesn’t mean I didn’t. But the only thing I’m waiting for really is stitch markers so they wouldn’t be in a package.  I JUST order some stuff online today but they don’t ship to Canada so I shipped it to a friend in the States. It can’t be from my secret pal cause i just got something from her. oooo the antici……………………………………….pation is KILLING me. I have to run to the post office after 1 pm tomorrow. I hate waiting. I wonder what it is. I wonder who it’s from. I wonder. GAK!

My secret pal is spying on me….

I’ve spent the morning searching the house for the cameras. A couple of days ago I was finishing off N’s sock (the knee high in pink) with a short row toe and I was searching madly for stitch holders. I found 2 out of the 900 million (or so) that I’ve had over the years. I did find a package of yucky plastic ones and ended up using them to mark my spot….(sorry that totally makes me think of Frankie the dog who is still peeing like a girl..when do boy dogs start lifting their legs?) I thought I would order some (and did) from a etsy sight but I only got two sets because a. I was being cheap and b. I thought I’d find some locally. I would like to have a few sets for the many projects I have going.

So anywhooooo, I get to the mailbox yesterday and what do I find….a SECRET PAL package! And inside there was some beautiful sock yarn that is telling me that it would like to live on my niece’s feet who is turning 25 this December and has been bugging me for a pair. There is also two balls of the cutes ‘thick and thin’ wool handpainted by Jan Gilray which I’ve fondled at my LYS but never bought so I’m excited to see what I can knit up with it, also a book called Knitting Sweaters from the Top Down by Cathy Carron which I’ve never seen before but since all the sweaters I’ve ever made end up being vests this is probably the find of the century for me….and finally, a set of the cutest stitch markers which lead me to the frantic searching of my house to see where the camera is hidden. Thanks Secret Pal you ROCK!

OOO and the other day I made chicken pot pie from scratch….yep from boiling the chicken to the pastries…..here’s photographic proof!

Oh and stupid teenager DOES smile every year whether he needs it or not…it usually is brought on by his brother. Here they are at Granny’s birthday, geez, I love my kids.

Don’t know what the hell is wrong with the camera I am assuming it’s NOT a user issue.

My house is clean!

I know, not a big deal right?  My mother’s birthday was yesterday and I had 20 people over for supper.  The all left after 10 pm and by 8 this morning I had the house back in shape….including the laundry.

It was a FANTASTIC night and I’m glad we did a party for her because she really enjoyed it.  Here’s the whole gang after supper.  I think we could easily have fit another 10 people….

The old bird is 79 years old and dammit if she doesn’t look closer to 60.  My mother takes it upon herself to give these little “talks” to the kids as they hit adulthood.  She wants to be sure they know how to be safe.  Bless their little hearts they listen as the crazy lady tells them about sex and the dangers of not protecting themselves.  They grin and say “yes granny” and she goes on and on and on.  One one such occasion she was delighted to find out that one of the many “extra” grandkids (someone related by crazy but not by blood or marriage) didn’t have a prophylactic with him she then proceeded to tell him how important it was blah blah blah.  Fast forward to last night, the single most hilarious part of the night when she opened a card from this ‘extra’ grand kid and inside was a Trojan condom.  She just about DIED.   I was immediately struck by how quickly she recognised what it was….

Knitting stuff!

I love the mail man….oops mail woman, no that can’t be right mail carrier! KnitPicks package came yesterday….I remember ordering it in a haze but not really the specifics. Now I’m DYING to cast on the purple, green and chocolate stripe into a cool pair of socks. Plus I’ m trying to round out some of my knitpick sock needles…and some of them came in too! I love the colourways at knitpicks…..must.not.click.over.

So right now instead of making something for my dear sweet crazy mother who is 79 tomorrow I’m knitting knee highs for N. I LOVE them….another pattern from More Sensational socks. The look weird here….
